September is National Library Card Sign up Month

Anyone who owns property in the Germantown Public Library District pays an annual library tax and is entitled to a library card.  Please bring your property tax statement, a piece of mail, and your driver’s license as proof of residency and we can issue a library card to you.

Anyone who does not own property in the district but who would like a card may purchase one for $75 per household per year.

Our library cards may be used at any library in the state of Illinois.

Have you lost your library card?  A replacement card is $3.00.

The Germantown Public Library is part of the Illinois Heartland Library System.  We participate in inter-library loan and receive free delivery of materials through the library system 5 days per week.  If you cannot find an item you want at our library, the librarians can assist you in locating the item at another library in our system, the state of Illinois or anywhere in the USA.  Items requested through interlibrary loan usually arrive within a week and you may check them out as you do our own items, for 2 weeks.  There is no charge for this service.

We also belong to the Cloud Library service which allows patrons to check out items such as e-books and audiobooks.  If you like reading or listening to books on an electronic device, we have the items for you.

If you or someone in your household has a library card with us please stop by to see that the contact information is up to date and that it has not expired.

Questions??  Our website is gtownlibrary.org , phone number 618-523-4820 and our email address is gma@gtownlibrary.org .

COVID-19 Guidelines as of August 16, 2021

The number of covid cases  have been rising in the population of individuals who are not vaccinated.  Since students under the age of 12 are not yet able to receive the vaccination we want to take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of covid for this age group.  With the beginning of a new school year, the Illinois State Board of Education is following guidance from the Illinois Department of Health, American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Centers for Disease Control and requiring masks when inside school buildings.  The Germantown Public School District  uses the Germantown Public Library as an extension of the classroom.  Teachers bring their students for weekly visits which allows them to check out reading materials.  In order to support the guidance put forth by the ISBE we will once again be requiring the wearing of masks when inside the library.  We appreciate your support in these efforts to keep the youngest members of our community as safe as possible.

Please use hand sanitizer, available in the lobby, before entering the library.

Water fountain and restroom are not available for public use at this time.

If you are feeling unwell, please stay home.
