Are you looking for an old favorite Christmas movie to watch?  How about a special book your family loves to read each holiday season?  Chances are we have it at the library.  If it’s not in our building, we can usually borrow it from another library in Illinois, at no charge to you.  From “Home Alone” to “The Night before Christmas”, from “The Polar Express” to “The Christmas Train”, come check out a special holiday treat from your library.

Our Family Reading Night event is still happening!!!  The theme is “Oh the Places You’ll Go…through Reading”.  We’ll have stories and games from around the world, crafts and attendance prizes…even Dr. Seuss soup!  The sidewalks and roads are clear, so put on your craziest traveling clothes and join us at the library from 7-8pm tonight, Nov. 15.

The library will be closed Monday, November 12 in honor of Veterans Day.  We salute all those who’ve served our country.

Mark your calendar for Thursday, Nov. 15 for this year’s Family Reading Night celebration at the library.  Bring the whole family and wear your craziest travelling clothes.  The theme is “Oh the Places You’ll Go…through Reading!”  We’ll have Dr. Seuss stories, games, crafts and snacks.  This event begins at 7pm and is free and open to the public.  All children will go home with an attendance prize.

A counselor from Clinton County Senior Services will be at the library on Wednesday October 31.  Free unbiased help with Medicare part D prescription plans will be given.  Call 594-2321 to make an appointment.  Remember, open enrollment for  making changes to your Medicare part D drug plan runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7 this year.

The library will be closed Monday October 8 for Columbus Day.

Forms are here for the fall health fairs sponsored by St. Joseph’s Hospital.  There are 3 more fairs this year, in Carlyle, Trenton and Germantown.  Pick up your form here if you’d like to pre-register.

We’re now a drop off point for aluminum can tabs for Ronald McDonald house.  If you save tabs, we’d appreciate you dropping them off at the front desk of the library.  Don’t forget, you can also save your plastic bottle lids and bring them to the library.  Those are taken to school for new park benches.  Thanks!

Have you heard about “The Great American Read”?

It’s a PBS initiative to get Americans reading and talking about our favorite books.  You can even vote for your personal favorites!  We’ve got lots of these gread reads at Germantown Library and can borrow any others you may want through interlibrary loan.  Many of these books are on display at the library, along with copies of the list of the top 100 that you can take home.  See how many you’ve read, find some new titles and be sure to vote.  Go to http://www.pbs.org/the-great-american-read/books/#/ to find out more and cast your ballot.

The library will be closed Tuesday, July 31, for the annual St. Boniface Parish picnic.  Please feel free to use our parking lot and head across the street to the church grounds to enjoy a delicious fried chicken dinner, quilt bingo, raffles, games and cold drinks!  Dinner is served beginning at 3:30 in the air-conditioned cafeteria, while quilt bingo begins outside at 6:30.
