New History Panels

Our rotating collection of history panels brings us two awesome 3-dimensional displays for September and October.  One panel pertains to the forts and blockhouses of Madison and Bond Counties and the other zeroes in on Hill’s Fort, which is in Clinton County.  Both panels contain very detailed models of forts, with miniature replicas of utensils, musical instruments and ammunition of the 1800’s.  A lot of time and research went into these displays and we know you will enjoy taking a closer look.

Germantown Veterans Book

Nov. 30 Deadline for Germantown Veterans Project Book

The Germantown Historical Society will publish a book containing photos, information, memories and experiences from living and deceased military veterans from Germantown. Veterans from the Korean, Vietnam, Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan wars are still needed.

The Deadline for veterans and their families to participate in this project is November 30, 2014.

“Many veterans from wars as well as peacetime have already shared their photos and memories with me for this book.  I am grateful for those and for the information that families of deceased veterans have given me,” says co-author of the book Mary Jansen Parrent.  “We also welcome veterans who have chosen to live here.”  Mary is the co-writer of the book in association with the Germantown Historical Society.

“Any individual or family wanting to participate in the project can contact me by calling 409-1079, sending me their photos and information at marybethjansen@aol.com or simply by dropping these items off at the Germantown Public Library desk.”

“Please help us honor our veterans and preserve this part of Germantown’s and our country’s history.”
